There was a time when META tags were the end all be all portion of the webpage that search engines relied on for evaluating what the page was about. With the abuse of the keyword META tag, importance has shifted from that to the quality and composition of two tags. The number one tag isn't really a tag at all. The TITLE resides in the webpage head tag and so gets included as a tag. Using the primary keywords of the webpage in the title is considered even more important than the keywords themselves. The number two tag is the META description tag. This tag is only visible to the search engine spiders is what describes what the webpage theme is. These two tags combined with quality content will achieve better SERPs ranking than stuffing or spamming keywords into the tag. Those days are long gone. The key as usual is that all components of the page relate to one another and convey a certain theme. |
